Obstetrics
In obstetrics, Dr. Green and Dr. Urribarri and our staff welcome women who desire natural childbirth with minimal interventions, as well as those with complicated pregnancies. Patient concerns and expectations, including pain control and epidural anesthesia for delivery are fully explored at obstetrical visits.
Beyond safe deliveries of healthy babies, Dr. Green and Dr. Urribarri and the staff’s goals in obstetrics include:

At Green and Urribarri, the journey consist of:
First Trimester
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Blood type (blood transfusion may be needed in an emergency)
- General antibody screen
- Rapid plasma reagent (RPR) which screens for syphilis
- Rubella antibody screen
- Hepatitis B surface antigen
- Gonorrhea and Chlamydia culture
- Pap smear
- Urinalysis and culture
- HIV screen
- Herpes type 2
- Cystic Fibrosis Screening
- Jewish Panel Blood
- Sickle Cell Screen
Second trimester
- MSAFP/triple screen (maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein) – elevation correlated with neural tube defects and decrease correlated with Down’s syndrome
- Ultrasound
- Amniocentesis in older patients (if necessary)
Third trimester
- Hematocrit (if low, mother will receive iron supplementation)
- Glucose loading test (GLT) – screens for gestational diabetes; if > 140 mg/dL, a glucose tolerance test (GTT) is administered; a fasting glucose > 105 mg/dL suggests gestational diabetes.
- Group B Strep
Ultrasound is used for many functions:
- Done at 1st Prenatal Visit
- 2nd Trimester visit for complete fetal assessment.
Labor Process
- Monitor the progress of labor, by reviewing the nursing chart, performing vaginal examination, and assessing the trace produced by a fetal monitoring device.
- Provide pain relief, if needed
